This issue of (mt) focuses on an important segment of our industry-ship maintenance and repair-and that involves some of the many "faces of SNAME." As you read this, Mega Rust 2017 will have just finished, and the Fleet Maintenance and Modernization Symposium will be just a few weeks away. Recognizing the significance of the repair segment to our industry, the Shipbuilders Council of America also holds the annual National Ship Repair Industry Conference, most recently in March. These events bring together the maintenance and repair community to explore opportunities to reduce costs and improve productivity associated with repair. After a decade of extended deployments and accrual of a maintenance backlog, reducing costs associated with maintenance and repair is a high priority for the United States Navy.
