The subject of moorings has been treated in one form or another in textbooks, handbooks, guides, and so forth, but it has usually been as one topic among others. This book is the first dedicated exclusively, in English at least, to the engineering of mooring systems for floating offshore structures. The four authors, all highly qualified academically, are practitioners and work either for a major offshore operator or a consulting organization. Together, they have many decades of experience in the planning and design of mooring systems. This is probably responsible for the focus of the book, which appears to be targeted primarily at the broad engineering community of designers, builders, and operators, although there is much of value for aca-demia—including students, especially those enrolled in graduate programs. In terms of vessel type, the book contains topics of interest to those concerned with ship moorings, but the primary target audience of the book is designers, engineers, and others working with floating offshore structures and wind turbines.
