The hugely profitable, high-volume (for a premium car) 3 Series gets some new side-surface treatment and the familiar new BMW hood bulge dictated by European pedestrian crash standards. BMW already has confirmed a four-cylinder option for the U.S.You can count on the direct-injection turbo four being readied for the Z4 and the next-gen 1 rnSeries' M edition. BMW also makes a naturally aspirated, 143-horsepower, 2.0-liter four for the home-market 3, and it may include an Efficiency Dynamics version, with an inline-three battery range extender drivetrain, solar roof panel, and brake regeneration. The 3 Series is slated to go on sale early in '12. A six-cylinder M3 should be ready about a year later.
