Dodge's story, and believe you me they're sticking to it, is this:When the first-generation four-door Charger happened, they designed the car, and then some out-of-touch marketing dude slapped the Charger badge on its rump. This time around, Ralph Gilles and friends have decided to inject a little bit of actual Charger heritage into the thuggish sedan for its 2011 mega-refresh. Students of history (i.e.,"Bullitt" and "The Dukes of Hazzard") will instantly recognize the door scallops as a riff on the double-door scallops of the 1968-1970 Charger two-door. For 2011, they're too.. .forced. Each scallop's top line resolves itself along the rear fender, especially on the driver side, where it bisects the fuel door. But the deep, single indents just don't work. Regardless, Dodge kept yammering on about the Charger's Coke bottle shape, going so far as to whip out an actual Coke bottle. I suppose if you were to squint hard enough you could see the similarities. After all, both objects were red.
