When executive editor Ron Kiino approached me about shepherding our new long-term 2012 Civic Si four-door a year ago, I jumped at the opportunity. I had never owned a vehicle like the Si-high-rewing, naturally aspirated, raspy, and ready. My interest in cars jumped past Honda to more unreliable, less popular vehicles such as my Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4. For many enthusiasts in their mid-to-late 20s, the mid-'90s Civic was a hand-me-down, the first car that, with the help of new alloys, a cold-air intake, and a loud exhaust system, launched our automotive passion. And it was with that mindset of youthful exuberance I began my year with the Civic Si.
