Turbocharger hoses are designed to serve two functions - absorb normal engine vibrations and provide a means of connection for the pressurized air conveyance between the various components in the system. Unfortunately, turbocharger hose failure remains an all-too-familiar concern for many die-sel truck owners. This is because the original equipment hoses cannot reliably withstand the extreme operating conditions, temperatures, and exposure to oil that these hoses are constantly subjected to. The result is premature hose failure, normally in the form of hose blow-off or rupturing. A failed turbocharger hose will illuminate the check engine light in addition to causing numerous drivability concerns, the most noticeable of which being a severe loss in performance. Air flow through a turbocharged engine is designed to be closed, so when one of the hoses fails, boost pressure is immediately lost.
