South and Southeast Asia have emerged as increasingly key growth areas for grain imports in recent years, also driving longhaul trades. The International Grains Council (IGC) expects new annual highs for wheat imports were reached by countries in the Asia-Pacific region. As the chart, right, shows, Indonesian imports in the 2019/20 (July -June) trade year were estimated to have matched the record 10.9 Mt of the previous year, and are projected to edge higher in 2020/21.
