The spot market in October soared to the highest point this year, shortly after the US administration imposed sanctions in late September on four Chinese shipping companies, including COSCO Shipping Tanker (Dalian). This had cast fears and doubts amongst charterers and traders to trade cargoes using ships that were 50% or more (directly or indirectly) owned by COSCO, and led them to seek prompt employment from other shipowners in the market. Correspondingly, the freight markets sprang to vibrancy, seeing the 1st fixture in a long time pushing past the six figure per day mark.
