World Coal Trade: Review Of 2008 & Outlook For 2009

For the majority of 2008, the key restraint concernng seaborne coal trade growth was cargo availability. A variety of logistical issues constrained coal deliveries to ports in Australia, China, South Africa and Russia, so much so that US coal exports were drawn back into the international market in quantities unseen since the late 1990s. However, the sudden transformation in world economic conditions has turned end-user demand to the centrepoint of trade projections.
