The tempo of scrap sales moderated in October from September's high levels, with 85 units of 2.26mdwt (0.64mlwt) reported sold. This was the lowest monthly total since January, yet still took sales in the first 10 months of 2011 to 773 ships of 32.8mdwt (7.23mlwt), or up by 11.1mdwt (+51.3%) from year-earlier levels. This was despite far lower selling of oil tankers this year, as many single -hulled vessels were scrapped inrn2010 on reaching their compliance dates with IMO double-hull rules.
