With the falling dry bulk freight market hitting hard in January, we saw a stand-off between buyers and sellers on bulker prices. Most European buyers preferred to wait for some market direction after Chinese New Year. Conversely, Chinese buyers were keen to get business wrapped up prior to the New Year festivities, with these accounting for over half of the sales reported in the month. We expect this not to be so in months ahead, with Greek buyers likely to return to prominence. Unsurprisingly, the general trend on asset values was down again, month on month.
