Record Chinese Imports Forecast

Following its previous predictions that the October 2013 to September 2014 trade year would see a new record for China's soyabean and coarse grain imports, the latest forecasts issued by the US Department of Agriculture are for PRC wheat imports to reach an 18-year high in the marketing year running from July 2013 to June 2014. Together these projections imply that 2013/14 will see total Chinese grain imports rise by almost 30% to 87 Mt, which should be sufficient to lift world seaborne grain trade to a new all-time high.
