Chinese soyabean imports are still set to reach a record high of 61.0 Mt in the 2012/13 marketing year, according to the latest estimates from the US Department of Agriculture, but the USDA has lowered its growth forecast by 2 Mt over the past month. This is mainly due to lower than expected volumes in the 1q13 as logistical problems in Brazil hampered exports from the country. In addition, to this however, there are potential threats to domestic demand for soyabeans in China due to two health scares.
