Nine months into 2014, net growth of the oil tanker fleet is on course to register its lowest level since 2002. Excluding chemical carriers and ships below 10,000dwt, the fleet grew by only 44 vessels of 4.49mdwt by end-September - mainly due to a fall in new deliveries to what is set to be their lowest total for 13 years. Annualising the rate of deliveries seen in the first 9 months of 2014 would imply fleet additions of just 14.5mdwt, or down by 6.6mdwt (-31.3%) from 2013 levels.
