Tanker markets continued to thrive in May (with several routes recording their highest daily earnings since 2008) as high refining margins kept demand for crude high and consumer demand grew. This was highlighted in the latest International Energy Agency report where it revised its global oil demand growth figure for the 1H15 up to 1.6 mb/d y-o-y as the global economic recovery and lower oil prices boosted consumption. The majority of crude tanker trades experienced spikes in mid-May, pushing average earnings higher compared to April. In the clean sector, LRs continued to rally while MR markets also maintained their strength.
