Looking back on January, it was certainly an interesting start to 2015. Whilst virtually everyone was caught by surprise at the decision taken by Switzerland, as its central bank terminated its policy of pegging the Swiss franc at a rate of 1.20 to the euro, the shipping community continued to endure a rather predictable fall in freight rates. Amid particularly dismal trading conditions for owners of large bulkers, no sales for further trading of Capesizes were reported in the month.
