With a combined population larger than either the EU or Nafta and relatively low per capita steel consumption, member states of the Association of South East Asia Nations (Asean) clearly offer great potential as a main driver of steel demand growth. Speakers at last month's Kallanish Asia Steel Markets conference held in Ho Chi Minh City continued to emphasise the positive steel demand prospects for the region.
