Alstom Transport confirmed on 30 August that the company had decided not to bid for the Crossrail train fleet contract. The decision, taken some weeks previously, followed an analysis of the requirements for the new rolling stock where Crossrail is now looking for a derivative of an established design. Some readers asked if this meant that Alstom was pulling out of the UK. But in its statement the company emphasised that it remains committed to the UK market and will be competing for power supplies, electrification equipment and signalling contracts from Crossrail.
