While the West Coast franchise remains politically contentious. Virgin Rail Projects and Alstom continue to make good progress in the programme to extend 31 Pendolino sets from nine to 11 cars. On 14 October set No 390121 began testing in its new formation, joining 24 lengthened trainsets and the four new Pendolinos (Nos 390154-157), which were delivered as 11 -car formations.
