How right Pete Waterman is in calling for a new Crewe station (p54, last month). I travelled from Tarporley, in Cheshire, some 12 miles from Crewe, regularly until recently for over ten years on my way to London. Depending on the time of day that journey could take up to an hour by car, with the final half mile or so taking anything over 30 minutes and often longer, due to deadlock in traffic thanks to Council-inspired road calming. When I reached the car park it could often be full, because Crewe is in fact a Parkway station in disguise servicing a huge swathe of Cheshire from all sides. Trying to get out of the car park on your return is a nightmare, as the exit feeds straight into a traffic jam.
