Reshaping Britain's railways

The half-centenary of the Beeching report has sparked a lot of interest. The National Archives, in association with publisher Collins, has released a facsimile of the original 1963 report, The Reshaping of British Railways' - it is available now for ￡9.99 (www. nationalarchives.gov.uk). Meanwhile our old pals Chris Austin and Lord Faulkner of Worcester launched their account of Beeching ('Holding the Line: How Britain's Railways were Saved', Ian Allan) in a do at the House of Lords at the end of February.
