The Govemment'has safeguarded the future'of through services between the Wimbledon loop and the central London Thameslink route, Rail Minister Simon Burns announced on 21 January. Passengers travelling to central London on the Wimbledon loop had faced the prospect of having to change trains at Blackfriars from 2018 under proposals put forward under theThameslink Programme, said the DfT. But after extensive consultation for its now delayed franchise competition, the Department says it has worked closely with Network Rail to make sure the route continues to operate as part of Thameslink's core services.
