Bombardier Has awarded Taylor Woodrowa £142 million contract to design and construct an eight-road depot for the Crossrail train fleet at Old Oak Common, west London. It will be able to accommodate 33 trains while routine maintenance is carried out. The two companies are laying stress on the environmental credentials of the new building. Energy at the depot will be generated and stored using a hybrid renewables energy system (HRES) comprising photovoltaic (PV)cells and solar heated water. Ground source heat pumps will control heating and cooling, originating from a combined heat and power plant.
