Alstom has completed refurbishment of the 56-strong Virgin Trains Class 390 Pendolino fleet. The trains have undergone their fourth heavy overhaul at Longsight depot in Manchester, where the fleet is based. Alstom built a new bogie overhaul facility at the site, which the company says helped reduce the time taken to overhaul an entire set of bogies for a train to five days, with work on each train taking seven days. During the work bogies were washed and stripped while wheelsets, gearboxes, drop links, yaw dampers and other associated components were exchanged. In addition, a total of 4,100 modules were tested and 2.3 million consumables were replaced. Alstom maintains the Pendolino fleet on behalf of Virgin Trains.
