One in the eye for the cynics

Community rail has a great track record of helping to enliven some of the byways of the UK railway system, and a few of the highways too. It is a British success story: embraced by Government, sponsored by the rail industry and tapping an army of enthusiastic volunteer groups, community rail has proved that secondary routes have a valuable role to play in the economic and social life of the country and belied those who see them as an unjustified drain on the Treasury.
