FEN LINE WORKS COMPLETE

CAPACITY IMPROVEMENT work on the Fen line from Cambridge to King's Lynn has been completed by Network Rail, allowing eight-car trains to be introduced from December. The £29 million project has included provision of a new siding outside King's Lynn and lengthened platforms at Littleport and Waterbeach. The work was delivered by NR and contractor VolkerFitzpatrick, and also included new stairs and a ramp on the southbound platform at Littleport. The impact of Covid required an additional £1.7 million investment to complete the project, with track, safety and train testing and driver training to be completed ahead of improved services in December.
