THE DEPARTMENT for Transport has received 60 applications for the first round of the Restoring your Railway Ideas Fund, launched in January. The £500 million fund is intended to support proposals to reinstate axed local services, to accelerate schemes already being considered for restoration and to promote new and restored stations. The submissions will be assessed by a panel chaired by Rail Minister Chris Heaton-Harris and also including Network Rail Chair Sir Peter Hendy. To comply with Covid-19 restrictions, the panel will consider the bids on paper, without direct representation from promoters.
