Bescot depot for WMT Aventras

WEST MIDLANDS Trains plans to build a new depot on the site of the Bescot freight yard and maintenance depot as the base for its new Class 730 Bombardier Aventra EMUs.The operator says the depot will create more than 100 new jobs in the Sandwell area. At the outset of its franchise, WMT had planned for the Aventras to be maintained at a new facility at Duddeston, but challenges with this have forced a rethink.The company is in the very early stages of preparing a planning application for submission to Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. It highlights that the plans are not connected to Network Rail's plans for a sleeper factory, for which a planning application has recently been turned down.
