TRAM-TRAIN WORKS ONTO NR INFRASTRUCTURE

THE FIRST Class 399 Sheffield Tram-Train worked onto Network Rail infrastructure in the early hours of 10 May, when set No 399202 became the first light rail vehicle in the UK to work on the national rail network. The move followed the completion of the installation of the overhead wires over theTinsley Chord, connecting the Sheffield Supertram network to the main line, during the weekend of 21/22 April,and the handing over of the chord to Supertram on 8 May. Running under a possession, the tram reached the Magna science park on the outskirts of Rotherham. Further trial runs on the Network Rail section of the line to Rotherham in the early hours of 11 May included the use of DB Cargo locomotive No 66156 to test recovery procedures.
