ISM manufacturing data posts another strong month in September

September marked the third-consecutive month of solid manufacturing activity, according to the most recent edition of the Manufacturing Report on Business from the Institute of Supply Management (ISM). The PMI, the index used by the ISM to measure manufacturing activity, hit 56.2 in September, which was 0.5% above August and now represents the highest level for the index in 2013. It is above the 12-month average of 52.4 by 3.8% and has been over 50 in nine of the last 10 months.
