'Visioneering' future opportunities

E-commerce puts materials handling at ground zero of the biggest explosion to hit global business since the Industrial Revolution. Sitting and listening to some of the most influential thought leaders in the world of supply chain software solutions, one common theme keeps emerging: Information technology remains in its infancy, and no one is quite sure what it's going to look like as an adult. "Asking today's vendors of supply chain technology where this is all going is like asking the Wright Brothers what they think of frequent flier programs," notes Rich Sherman, of EXE Technologies in Dallas. Rich joined the company in June, and has assumed the rather unique title of senior vice president of visioneering.
