Imagine for a moment you had a crystal ball that would allow you to forecast and plan for the future demands on your warehouse. Then, imagine that information would allow you to optimize the resources and inventory at your warehouse at any given moment. And that you could determine the most efficient way to process your orders and ship them to your customers. Now, take the dream one step further. Imagine that the information could be used to manage inventory across the entire supply chain. It would start with the moment raw materials enter a manufacturing plant, include delivery of finished goods to your distribution center and conclude when they are shipped to your customer. If need be, you could make changes on the fly to satisfy customer demands. You could redirect inventory for specific orders or re-route delivery trucks already on the road. Sounds like a dream, right? And yet, dreams have a way of becoming reality.
