Getting out of our own way

Sometimes we're just a little too clever for our own good. What comes to mind are those times when a materials handling system works much better in concept or during the planning stage than it does out on the shop or warehouse floor. I have participated in many design sessions where everything that we planned while sitting around the conference table made perfect sense to us. But, when implemented on the floor, needed some adjustments to make the operation as smooth and elegant as we had imagined.
