IPEX designs and manufactures a line of integrated thermoplastic piping systems-pipe, valves, fittings, auxiliary components and tools-from a range of materials, including plastic and metal composites. The cycle time for molding IPEX's heavy wall fittings was long because of the required cooling time. The parts were cooled inside the mold during the molding cycle. But speeding up the cycle of the molding machine by reducing the cooling time would cause the parts to deform and be unusable. Technical manager Ric Atchison searched for a solution. As a result, the company developed a water-cooling conveyance system that uses a plastic conveyor that wouldn't deteriorate due to long periods of running water.
