The goal of my model railroad photography is to look like the real world. A shallow depth of field or a poorly painted (or absent) backdrop can spoil this illusion. I solve both of these problems with photo-editing software.rnI enhance the depth of field with HeliconFocus. For example, if I'm photographing a passenger train model, I want the observation car at the end of the train to be just as sharply focused as the locomotive in front. I'll set up my camera on a tripod and take 10 to 20 photos of the scene, advancing the focal point with each shot.
