Qualcomm's new MDM9207-1 and MDM9206 LTE modems are aimed at powering smart meters, wearables and the growing array of other devices and systems within the Internet of Things. The MDM9207-1 offers Category 1 LTE connectivity, with a downlink speed of up to 10MBps. The modem will also have a battery life of more than 10 years and supports the likes of LTE FDD, LTE TDD, DC-HSPA, GSM and TD-SCDMA. Meanwhile, the MDM9206 is built for low data rate IoT applications and will support forthcoming Low Power Wide Area technologies, including LTE Cat-M (eMTC) and NB-IOT. Both units begin shipping in 2016.
