COVID reserves may help aid gap in council's budgets

Angus Council may use reserves put aside for responding to the COVID-19 pandemic to plug looming holes in its budget over the next two years.The money will largely be drawn from the additional support the Scottish Government provided to fund pandemic costs.In a report due to be considered by councillors last week, finance director Ian Lorimer noted that the funding was not ringfenced. The meeting over-ran and councillors will now debate the package.Councillors will be asked to 'cushion' permanent savings needed from the core budget over the next three years by drawing down up to £6m from unallocated reserves. The council had previously planned to draw down £1m in 2022-23.
