Councils plan reserves increase post-Budget

Prudent councils are shoring up their reserves in an effort to protect future finances, figures released as part of the Budget have revealed.The squirrelled cash was revealed as chancellor Philip Hammond praised councils for their efforts at rescuing the public purse in a Budget that doled out some cash for social care, mental health, high streets and roads.According to the Office for Budget Responsibility's (OBR) predictions, councils are expected to increase their reserves to £25.7bn by the end of 2019/20 -56.5% or £9.2bn more than in 2010/11 before councils faced massive budget cuts.
