Council leaders have insisted they are working hard to process requests to hold outdoor events after coming under pressure from the Government. Ministers wrote to council chief executives and leaders at the weekend expressing concerns that some local authorities were 'still withholding permissions' for the restart of parkrun events. In a letter to councils, local government secretary Robert Jenrick said: 'Public concern this week about the delay to parkrun's return highlights how important these events are to people across the country.' There was a glimmer of light for the public finances with latest figures showing Government borrowing last month was £15.6bn lower than in April last year.
