Liverpool plans improvement

Liverpool City Council has drafted an improvement plan in response to Max Caller's Best Value inspection report into problems at the authority. The plan, alongside a letter to Government officials from Liverpool chief executive Tony Reeves, was due to be approved by an extraordinary council meeting as The MJ went to press. In the letter, the council accepted the directions made in the Caller report, which was ordered by local government secretary Robert Jenrick after the arrest of then mayor Joe Anderson. The letter reads: 'While there may be different views on the emphasis of some elements of the report, all of the findings are accepted and the council acknowledges that it has failed to comply with its Best Value duty over a number of years.
