LGA: 'Greater regulation won't improve social care'

Further regulation and intervention will not improve social care, the Local Government Association (LGA) has warned. The approach taken by the Government in its White Paper on health and care was questioned by the LGA's deputy chief executive, Sarah Pickup, as she gave evidence to a select committee this week. Under the Government's plans, the Care Quality Commission will implement a rating system for councils' delivery of adult social care services, with the health secretary granted powers to intervene.
