Calderdale MBC was abuzz recently when a huge honey bee nest was discovered in one of its libraries. The 10ft by 4ft nest, which is thought to have taken five years to build, was uncovered during the £1.75m refurbishment of Elland Library. There was no bumbling around by pest controllers, as the library was a hive of activity for seven hours while they extracted 50kg of honey and comb. And there was to be no sting in this heart-swarming tale as the 50,000 bees will live happily ever after at a local honey supplier.
