Whitehall told to back councils in fight against rise in knife crime

The Government has been urged to back councils to tackle the rise in youth violence. A report on the Government's serious violence strategy by the Home Affairs Committee found it was 'completely inadequate' and undermined by cuts to local authority youth services. MPs recommended there should be a leader in 'every regional county' reporting to the Prime Minister, ringfenced investment in youth services and prevention work, local safeguarding plans to tackle county lines and a statutory minimum provision for outreach workers and community projects.
