A not-for-profit audit supplier could be created to work alongside existing and any new firms entering the market, it has been suggested. The idea was floated in a report to a meeting of the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) company board as a way of helping maintain a competitive and sustainable local audit market. Also suggested was the idea of introducing a number of joint audit appointments to 'enable new entrants to gain experience of local public audits alongside established audit suppliers'.
