Authorities await flood of requests for business fund

Councils expect to be swamped with applications for a new discretionary fund created to help small businesses that have been blocked from claiming existing grants. The Government created a £615m discretionary fund after lobbying from local authorities over the number of firms that were struggling to get support because they were tenants and not directly liable for paying business rates.
