T he response to the Coronavirus pandemic is apowerful reminder of the critical role that localgovernment plays as advocate for and championof its communities, co-ordinator of local action, andmost crucially, a provider of vital services.These services include social care, public health,environmental health, housing and homelessnessservices, refuse collection and so much more. Itsupports, partners and enables local social action andlocal voluntary action – and itself is providing supportand even food to local vulnerable, at risk people.
