A league of their own

Not only has East Riding of Yorkshire topped the council recycling league table two years running - it's climbed from 214th place 11 years ago. Such a meteoric rise would be unimaginable in the sporting world, but this authority has made it a reality. Back in 2008, the council recycled less than a quarter of its waste but now recycles, reuses or composts 64.5% of all household waste. Topping the table for a second consecutive year saw the East Riding waste and recycling service named 'Best Council Services Team' at the MJ Local Government Achievement Awards in June.
