Funding cuts leave councils at a dead end

Senior vice-chair of the Local Government Association (LGA), Cllr Nick Forbes, has called for a 'very different approach' to the way councils are funded. Speaking at the LGA's annual conference last week, Cllr Forbes warned there were a 'whole series of risks around business rates' and argued a tourist tax could 'support better local infrastructure'. He added: 'Why on earth can't we have the flexibility and freedom to do that in our areas?
