If any local authority was due some good news, it's Rotherham. The council has been subject to Government intervention since last year following 2014's Jay Report into child sexual exploitation in the borough. Since then the local authority - led by a team of five expert commissioners - has begun a rebuilding process that is slowly but surely transforming the organisation and the way it serves local people. That journey received a boost in January with news from communities secretary Greg Clark that responsibility for a number of services will soon return to Rotherham Council. Although there is much work still to be done, it reflects the progress made in a short space of time. One of the keys to that success has been a renewed sense of energy and stability brought by a highly successful recruitment campaign. It's resulted in the recent appointment of Chief Executive Sharon Kemp from Manchester City Council together with an entirely new senior management team. The majority of new recruits will be in post by May, however there is a significant piece of the jigsaw still required - the post of strategic director for adult social care and housing.
