Call for councils to take on 'Big Six' energy purchasers

Every council in England could soon enter the energy business and take on the 'Big Six,' according to Grant Thornton. A new report by the international consultancy entitled Joining up local energy production called on authorities of all sizes to consider how they could help tackle fuel poverty or generate income through energy. The report highlighted the growing number of local authorities that are either generating electricity, such as Nottingham City Council's Robin Hood Energy, or those that have created supply companies, such as Cheshire East Council.
